Top Ten Books Everyone Has Read But Me (TTT #2)

"Top Ten Tuesday" is a weekly book blogger meme hosted by

This week's list topic is

TOP TEN BOOKS I FEEL AS THOUGH EVERYONE HAS READ BUT ME

Well, this one is super appropriate for me, since I constantly feel like I'm failing to keep up with the Book-Jones's. Here it goes...

1. HARRY POTTER AND THE SORCERER'S STONE by J.K. Rowling
Yep... I'm the only schmoe on this planet who has yet to read a single Harry Potter book. I was in college when the first book came out, so I can hardly say I just simply read them when I was a child. I didn't have any interest in reading a book for kids. But, I plan on reading it soon enough, anyway.

2. ANY BOOK WRITTEN BY STEPHEN KING
Again, I'm sure I'm alone in this category, too, in that I've never read a single word written by the legendary Stephen King. And, I'm not sure I want to. Never been a fan of pure horror fiction, but I hear he writes other genres these days...

3. THE LIGHTNING THIEF (PERCY JACKSON AND THE OLYMPIANS, #1) by Rick Riordan

More children's books for people of all ages, but rarely do I love children's books that were written after I already left behind my childhood. But, everybody's reading these books, even if they have gray hair.

4. ERAGON (INHERITANCE, #1) by Christopher Paolini
I actually bought this book in hardcover right after it came out how ever many years ago that was (I forget). I read the first few chapters, then just put it down. Then, some time later, I sold it off to get rid of it. It didn't end up appealing to me, although I probably should have given it another chance, I admit.

5. 1984 by George Orwell
I have never read this classic dystopian novel, I'm ashamed to say. It never ended up on a syllabus of a class I took in school and I just never sat down to read it on my own. I feel rather silly for that now, since everyone has read this at least once.

6. ENDER'S GAME (ENDER'S SAGA, #1) by Orson Scott Card
Here's one I really wish to read soon because I haven't ever read it before. I've never read any of Card's novels, but I'm not a big sci-fi buff, anyway.

7. THE AWAKENING (THE VAMPIRE DIARIES, #1) by L.J. Smith
This book series is now a popular American TV series, of which I've never watched before, either. I do love vampires, but does that mean I have to read this series? I don't even like Twilight.

8. VAMPIRE ACADEMY (VAMPIRE ACADEMY, #1) by Richelle Mead
I'm not sure I really want to read this book. I love vampires, but mix it with too much teen angst and I'm likely to want to exchange the book for a textbook on astrophysics just to bleach it of all emotions. Vampire Academy... do I even want to go there?

9. THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO (MILLENIUM, #1) by Stieg Larsson
I actually bought this book on an impulse while shopping at Walmart one evening, but I wonder if I should have. I'm not into thrillers too much, but since it's such a popular adult title right now, I thought I'd see what all the hype is about.

10. CLOCKWORK ANGEL (THE INFERNAL DEVICES, #1) by Cassandra Clare
I ordered this last September right after it came out, but have yet to read it (although, I plan to start it next week!). It has become pretty popular since then, and I have read City of Bones, but I really hope I like this other Cassie Clare series better. Her writing has improved since then, right?

  1. I haven't read any of these except for The Life of Pi and Vampire Academy - I actually just finished the series this week! I loved it! It didn't feel too teen angsty to me - the problems of the book are fairly mature in nature. Well, you know bad guys... and such. :D

    My Top 10 Tuesday!

  2. I use to gobble up Stephen King back in the 80's but have not read any of his new stuff. I loved 1984 when I read it in college and if you get a chance I am sure it is still a great dystopian novel with relevance today. Orwell definitely had an interesting insight into what the future would be like.

  3. Clockwork Angel is really good. I like it better than the Mortal Instruments series. Happy Reading!

  4. You really aren't alone in not having read HP. I just read the first book this summer. It was alright. Cute. I have Vampire Academy on my list, too. That's for next summer!

  5. I haven't read any of the Percy Jackson books either. Oh, I think you'll love Harry Potter! I hope you can pick it up soon.

  6. Vampire Academy is a fabulous series with an unfortunate name. Seriously. They're like crack, but they're smart enough you don't feel guilty about the addiction...

Percy Jackson are fun, but I've only read the first. After that, my son took over and has finished the series. I likely won't catch up, but I'm glad he enjoys them.

No real comments on the rest...started and couldn't stand The Mortal Instruments.

    Fun list!

  7. @BJ: Thank you! Finally another person who couldn't finish The Mortal Instruments.

Anyway...can't believe you haven't read Harry Potter! If you're not into his horror books, try reading The Green Mile. It's not really horror and is just a really great book. I'm not a big fan of Stephan King either but I enjoyed that book.

  8. @Lan: Lol at your MI comment...

I've seen the movie The Green Mile, and I liked that. I should read the book, and then I'll finally have read some Stephen King for a change. Thanks!

  9. I'm a little biased since Harry Potter is my favorite series ever, but you must must must read it! lol I read Carrie by Stephen King because my ex told me I'd like it...meh. I didn't see what was so great or scary. And you're really not missing anything with the LJ Smith series, they're not very good. The TV show however is amazing.

  10. @Marie: Yeah, I'm going to get started on HP pretty soon. In book blogger-ese, that means next year, lol. And, I wasn't too sure about LJ Smith's stuff. Definitely going to be a library check-out until I determine if they're worth purchasing. Why is the TV show so amazing if the books aren't?

  11. I am having a heck of a time with The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and I thought the same about Vampire Academy but if people are saying yes,I might have to satisfy my curiosity...
