This Friday's (1/19/2012) Question:
Recommend It: Which book from the last 10 you've read
would you recommend to a friend?

Well, I'd have to say that I would rec Hounded [my review] by Kevin Hearne because this entire series of books (Iron Druid Chronicles) is just the most stinkin' funniest I've read probably ever. This book is the first, so people need to start here, but I liked Hexed and Hammered (books 2 & 3) even better.
As I know people who are too sensitive to read a book with a lot of swearing and implied adult situations (like my older sister), I have to rec something suitable for them. Thus, I'd go with the book I'm currently reading, Clockwork Prince by Cassandra Clare. But, this is book 2 in The Infernal Devices series, so then I'd have to recommend starting with book 1, Clockwork Angel. [my review]
I'm absolutely loving this book, but I know I wouldn't if I didn't already love the characters. You have to love them first, or this book wouldn't be so great.
So there you have it!
Okay Cathy! I get the hint. Am up to book two of the Iron Druid series and I've also bought Clockwork Angel so I'm building up towards Clockwork Prince. Who are these crazy people that can't handle cursing and sex? Weirdos!
ReplyDelete@Lan: It's just the way we Americans are! We are Puritans, so if you do your research on them, you'll sort of understand why Americans are prudish about cursing and sex. I am, too, but not as much as my sister, I guess.
DeleteAnd, yes, totally read Clockwork Angel! I'm glad you bought it now, and you'll like the second book better if you learn to love the characters.
I've read Clockwork Angel, so I'm looking forward to eventually getting to Clockwork Angel.
ReplyDeleteI've reeeally wanted to read Hounded since I first discovered it - it sounds wonderful!

Loved Hounded! I have Hexed and Hammered waiting on my TBR tower. Atticus and Oberon are just hilarious together.

I haven't read any of the books in the Infernal Devices series, but I've been meaning too! :)
ReplyDeleteLots of people have recced Hounded. No one ever also said it was such a fun read too. I'll bump it up in my TBR pile!!
ReplyDeleteAwesome recommendations, Cathy! Once again I am reminded how lame I am for not reading The Iron Druid series. The Infernal Devices series is another great pick!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!
I never came across Hounded before but not only does the summary sound good but I like how everyone is saying it's super funny. Those are the best books! Added to my TBR shelf:D

Magical Urban Fantasy Reads
You know I'm on the cheerleading squad for The Iron Druid! :) Love that series.
ReplyDeleteI'm scared to try Cassandra Clare again. There. I've said it out loud. My attempt at the Mortal Instruments fizzled out and died an "OMFG you've got to be KIDDING me" sort of death and the book ended up at the used book store, unfinished. I just couldn't make it through. So...I've been scared to try again, even though I know people rave about this new series.
@BJ: You could always check out the Infernal Devices at the library, then quit if you really don't like it. But, it's far better than TMI, so I'd take a library loan out.
