Top Ten Dust-Collectors on My Shelf (TTT #5)

"Top Ten Tuesday" is a weekly book blogger meme hosted by

The Broke and the Bookish!

This week's list topic is...

TOP TEN BOOKS THAT HAVE BEEN ON MY SHELF FOR THE LONGEST, BUT I'VE NEVER READ

THE ALL-CLASSICS EDITION

1. HARRY POTTER AND THE SORCERER'S STONE  by J.K. Rowling
I know, right? How utterly WEIRD can a book blogger be to have had this book on her shelf for 5 or 6 years now, and still have yet to read it? I'm completely insane!

2. DAVID COPPERFIELD  by Charles Dickens
Been meaning to read this for forever, but I just know the book will take me forever to read it. It is around 900 pages long, after all. Still, I intend to read it. It's Dickens…

3. EMMA  by Jane Austen
I developed an aversion to this book, despite my love for Jane Austen's other books. Why? Because I do NOT like Gweneth Paltrow, and whenever I think of Emma, I think of her in the role of Emma in that 90's film adaptation. I just can't bring myself to read it. I will someday, though.

4. PERSUASION  by Jane Austen
I don't even have a good excuse for why I still haven't started reading this one. I love all the movie versions I've seen. It's going to be the very next Jane Austen book I read.

5. THE LORD OF THE RINGS  by J.R.R. Tolkien
Well, I suppose I just love watching the movies so much, I end up doing that instead, when I want to experience the story. Plus, all three of the books total over 1,000 pages. Heady stuff.

6. THE HOBBIT  by J.R.R. Tolkien
I haven't had this book for quite as long, so I don't mind that it's still unread on my shelf. Also, I know I'll be reading it real quickly before the first movie comes out late next year, so I've got time.

7. THE BLUE SWORD  by Robin McKinley
I've only had this since early this year, so I've got a good excuse for why it's still unread. I became a book blogger only this past June, so we all know how that goes!

8. IVANHOE  by Sir Walter Scott
I've had my copy of this book for a decade, but have yet to read it. I don't really know why. I just buy books and let them collect dust. Always have been that way, but I'm trying to kick that nasty habit.

9. ANNE OF GREEN GABLES  by L.M. Montgomery
I read these books when I was a girl, but my friend bought me an omnibus of the books, and that's what's still on my book shelf unread. I need to reread these books, which I remember liking a lot.

10. MOBY DICK  by Herman Melville
I think the main reason I've let this one collect dust over the years is because I completely FORGOT I even had it! I only just recently re-discovered it on my book shelf and realized I hadn't ever read it after buying it from Barnes & Noble a long time ago. That's probably the best excuse ever.

What are your TOP TEN DUST COLLECTORS?

Top Ten Books I Want to Reread (TTT #3)

This week's list topic is...

TOP TEN BOOKS I WANT TO REREAD

Alright! This week's topic is really fun! There's definitely a good number of books I want to reread. I'm sure this a list we can all expand on long after number ten...

1. DEATH NOTE by Tsugumi Ohba (a Japanese manga series)
This one I actually am currently rereading already! This is one of my favorite mangas, and I'll be gushing over it on my blog as I have planned to review all twelve volumes of it. This story is seriously A-mazing!

2. THE GREYFRIAR (VAMPIRE EMPIRE, #1) by Clay and Susan Griffith
I only just read this book a couple of months ago and I already want to read it again. I just love the characters and how interesting and larger-than-life they are. I also completely adore the Greyfriar, as well as his romance with Adele, the main character. I read books mostly for the characters, and these guys have stolen my heart.

3. THE IRON KING (IRON FEY, #1) by Julie Kagawa
These next three spots on my queue are going to be dedicated to Julie Kagawa's Iron Fey series, which are so wonderful and magical, I need to keep reading them. I love the characters here, mostly Ash and Puck, and Glitch, too, although he's not in the first book. Again, great characters make the story for me, usually.

4. THE IRON DAUGHTER (IRON FEY, #2) by Julie Kagawa

5. THE IRON QUEEN (IRON FEY, #3) by Julie Kagawa
This one is particularly epic! Great story and awesome ending...

6. PRIDE AND PREJUDICE by Jane Austen
When do I not want to reread this book? I pretty much always do, as it is one of my favorites. I adore Mr. Darcy (what woman doesn't?) and Mr. Bingley. They are just the most epic fictional men ever, the kind that seem so realistic. Real men could be just like that, right? They totally could, if only they would...

7. FRANKENSTEIN by Mary Shelley
Another huge classic favorite of mine. The detailed description of the monster Victor creates, when he first sees him animated, is some of the best you'll ever read anywhere. It spine-tingling even to this day. I love to hate Victor Frankenstein, so I just can't stop myself from loving this title and needing to reread it.

8. TRINITY BLOOD - RAGE AGAINST THE MOONS, VOLUME 1: FROM THE EMPIRE
by Sunao Yoshida
This is a Japanese light novel series. Light novels are not manga, as many people believe. They are actual novels with occasional illustrations here-and-there, but the story doesn't depend on them. This series is my favorite because the characters are simply amazing. You want to hang out with them. The origin story behind the vampires is the most unique I've ever come across, and the main character, Abel Nightroad, is a special type of vampire that feeds off of normal vampire blood. How frickin' cool is that? Love this...

9. "A CHRISTMAS CAROL" by Charles Dickens
Of course, everybody loves this tale, but how many read it? It's something wonderful to read at Christmas time, and not just watch your favorite movie adaptation. Dickens is the best writer to have ever lived, probably. I plan on rereading this story at Christmas time this year.

10. "THE LEGEND OF SLEEPY HOLLOW" by Washington Irving
I haven't read this for quite a long time, so I've been itching to get back to it. I'm excited for the nearing Halloween time of the year, and this is one of the best paranormal stories out there.

What's on your top ten books you want to reread list?

Top Ten Tuesday #1 (9/6/11)

"Top Ten Tuesday" is a weekly book blogger meme hosted by

"This feature was created because we are particularly fond of lists here at The Broke and the Bookish. We'd love to share our lists with other bookish folks and would LOVE to see your top ten lists!"

This is my first time participating in "Top Ten Tuesday," so I hope I'm doing this right! <crosses fingers>

This week's list is about THE TOP TEN SEQUELS I'M DYING TO READ:

1. THE IRON KNIGHT (IRON FEY, #4) by Julie Kagawa - I adore the Iron Fey series and I'm truly dying to read the last book in the series! Just have to wait until late October...

2. THE RIFT WALKER (VAMPIRE EMPIRE, #2) by Clay and Susan Griffith - (Out today!) The first book, The Greyfriar, was really awesome, and I already have a copy of the sequel. I just need time to read it after I get over my reader burn-out. <laughs> [See my review of The Greyfriar (Vampire Empire, #1) here]

3. LINGER (THE WOLVES OF MERCY FALLS, #2) by Maggie Stiefvater - I loved the first book, Shiver, and now I have the rest of the trilogy, so I'm going to dive in once I get a chance... [See my review of Shiver (The Wolves of Mercy Falls, #1) here]

4. TORN (TRYLLE TRILOGY, #2) by Amanda Hocking - The first book, Switched, is really good and one of my favorite reads this year. I can't believe I still haven't gotten to the secondbook in this series. Been so busy! [See my review for Switched (Trylle Trilogy, #1) here]

5. WEAVING DESTINY (THE SOULKEEPERS, #2) by G.P. Ching - The first book is really clever, really well-written, so I'm looking forward to reading my ARC of the second book, Weaving Destiny. [See my review of The Soulkeepers, #1 here]

6. TORMENT (FALLEN, #2) by Lauren Kate - I just barely finished listening to an audio CD of Fallen, and it was really good, despite my not expecting to like it. I want to know what's going on with these characters!

7. CITY OF ASHES (THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS, #2) by Cassandra Clare - Another first book I just finished was City of Bones, and I liked it, and already bought myself a copy of the second book, City of Ashes. What's up with Clary and Jace, seriously?!

8. UNTITLED (A WITCH RISING, #2) by Jayde Scott - The first book, Black Wood, was very cool, very Middle-Grade-esque, and I'm awaiting the release of the second book, which seems to be untitled for the time being. [See my review of Black Wood (A Witch Rising, #1) here]

9. UNTITLED (DARK SEEKER, #1) by Taryn Browning - The prequel is really cute with some great characters. I don't know when the first regular novel will get published, but I'm sure it will be pretty awesome when it does. [See my review of "Dark Beauty" (Dark Seeker, #1) here]

10. INSURGENT (DIVERGENT, #2) by Veronica Roth - I shouldn't even mention this book series because it's not a fantasy novel (it's dystopian sci-fi, actually), but I really loved this book and I can't wait to read the sequel when it comes out next year! Not to even mention the movie...
