It did feel like it was trying too hard at times to be really great writing, and that doesn't impress me half as much as a great story with incredible characters. This one was too writing-rich and weak in story and character.Cathy Keatonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18356112948372149785noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-932333374195558840.post-28032401774531629722012-01-28T20:59:09.894-08:002012-01-28T20:59:09.894-08:00I had problems with the writing style. The characters could have been flushed out a bit more, and the romance needed work definitely. It was out of nowhere. And, yes, the writing was distracting and I got annoyed with Juliette's constant hyperboles about everything. Just get used to it already! I said many times.

I think this is going to be a film, so we might get a live Warner, after all. I wanted to love this book, but I was bored about 1/3 of the way in and the X-Men rip off really annoyed me (not to mention that there was absolutely NO set up for it). The writing, though beautiful, became distracting; I wasn't sure it was the right style for a dystopian romance. I also thought the romance was over-blown and underdeveloped.

I didCamille Picotthttp://www.pixiupress.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-932333374195558840.post-55206345833809243522012-01-25T22:05:20.002-08:002012-01-25T22:05:20.002-08:00@Andrea: It's okay. But, usually reading a book to myself is the default-no-nonsense way for me, since I make up the characters voices in my head to suit my tastes. Still, this one just didn't work for me, but I can see other people really liking it.Cathy Keatonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18356112948372149785noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-932333374195558840.post-89582137300083789332012-01-25T16:34:24.356-08:002012-01-25T16:34:24.356-08:00Aw, sorry you didn't like it, but I can comple...Aw, sorry you didn't like it, but I can completely understand why! I totally crushed on the characters, and for whatever reason it just worked for me, even though I agree completely with all your criticisms! I have very high standards for villain characters. But, in the book I'm reading now, Halflings, there's a VERY awesome anti-hero that's quickly making me love him to death. He's more villain than anti-hero, and I only hope he doesn't go soft on me!Cathy Keatonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18356112948372149785noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-932333374195558840.post-85944510648254103892012-01-25T02:18:14.741-08:002012-01-25T02:18:14.741-08:00Given how in sync we generally are on our opinions...Given how in sync we generally are on our opinions of books, I am pretty sure I'll feel the same about this one. But I'm still going to read it out of curiosity because it's so darn popular. Shame about Warner.
